KUALA LUMPUR – Losing finalists at the Arctic Open last week, men’s singles player Ng Tze Yong and men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, were unable to bounce back as they were eliminated in the first round of the Denmark Open by their respective opponents today.

Tze Yong lost in straight sets, 21-18, 21-11, to world number 12 Lu Guangzu of China at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense, Denmark. The world number 17 player was defeated in 43 minutes.

At the same time, Wei Chong-Kai Wun were defeated in straight sets by Japanese pair Akira Koga-Taichi Saito, with a score of 21-8, 21-16.

The Japanese duo, ranked 17th in the world, will now face another Malaysian pair, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, in the next round.

The Malaysian duo advanced to the second round after newly crowned Asian Games gold medalists and world number one pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India withdrew from the tournament.

However, there was some joy for the Malaysian camp as women’s doubles pair Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien secured a spot in the second round after defeating Germans Linda Efler-Isabel Lohau today.

Hoo-Chiew Sien needed three sets to defeat their world number 31 opponents, with a score of 21-18, 19-21, 21-17 in an hour and 19 minutes.

The world number 34 pair will next face the world number 22 pair Yeung Nga Ting-Yeung Pui Lam of Hong Kong, who received a walkover in the first round.

The second round of the Superseries 750 event will resume tomorrow. – October 18, 2023
