Putrajaya should consider increasing civil servants' Employees Provident Fund contributions as part of its proposal to abolish pensions, DAP lawmaker Dr Kelvin Yii told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said that the proposal to abolish pensions for politicians will first be discussed at the cabinet level and then brought to Parliament before any decision is implemented.
The government has dismissed allegations that the proposal to abolish the pension scheme for new intakes of civil servants would victimise the Malays, who form the majority in government service.
Putrajaya should reconsider plans to stop pensionable employment of incoming civil servants and find alternatives that also reduce national spending on pensions, Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth leader Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said.
Datuk Suhaimi Nasir said that Umno Youth had previously proposed abolishing the pension scheme, and the idea has been well-received by various parties, including himself.
