Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has slammed certain quarters for intentionally politicising the much-debated Federal Court’s decision to nullify 16 provisions under Kelantan’s shariah laws.
All parties are urged not to continue unhealthy and misleading polemics regarding the Federal Court's decision to declare 16 offences in the Kelantan Shariah Criminal Offences Enactment (I) 2019 as null and void last Friday, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said.
The PKR vice-president took aim at PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan for claiming that shariah law is being neglected after the apex court ruled that 16 criminal provisions in Kelantan’s shariah enactments were unconstitutional.
Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has criticised Umno for its party leaders’ reaction towards the Federal Court’s ruling in a petition challenging the constitutionality of provisions under Kelantan’s shariah law.
Referring to the country's top judge Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat’s grounds of judgment when delivering the Federal Court’s decision in favour of the duo, Tengku Yasmin Nastasha Tengku Abdul Rahman said their case only concerned legal jurisdiction and not Islamic doctrine or the authority of shariah courts.
