The government will be guilty of “sin” if it fails to table the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) to increase the limits of punishments under Islamic law, Bersatu lawmaker Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the state government will explore the addition of another court level after the lower shariah court, the shariah high court and the shariah appeal court.
Proposed amendments to the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, also known as RUU355, should be under the jurisdiction of state legislatures, not Parliament, said prominent lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla.
