Troubled MYAirline denies losing entire fleet

Budget carrier says it has four aircraft still registered

KUALA LUMPUR – MYAirline has refuted recent media reports claiming that the budget carrier has been left without any aircraft following the return of its entire fleet to lessors.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook profile, the company clarified that out of the 10 aircraft previously under MYAirline’s management, six have been confirmed as deregistered by its lessors.

“This action is in line with industry practices aimed at safeguarding lessors’ assets,” it said.

It said presently, four aircraft remain registered and continue to be managed by lessors and assisted by MYAirline’s Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation.

Local news outlets today reported the deregistration of specific aircraft, identified by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia as five Airbus A320s with the registration numbers 9M-DAC, 9M-DAD, 9M-DAJ, 9M-DAL and 9M-DAH. An additional five aircraft found new lessees, including AirAsia.

However, the airline said it is important to note that these aircraft have been under lessor control since October 13, which was “not a recent development”.

“Nevertheless, we are actively engaged in discussions with our lessors with the intention of retaining these aircraft once the recapitalisation process concludes,” it said.

With regard to its licences, MYAirline clarified that they have been suspended and not revoked, contrary to certain reports.

“MYAirline maintains the perspective that the suspension of our licences serves the interests of our organisation, given our historical track record in maintaining a strong operational environment, especially in terms of technical, safety and operational aspects,” it said.

“The suspension necessitates that MYAirline demonstrate its capacity to operate independently and achieve financial capability to regain full certification and the reinstatement of its licences.” – November 6, 2023
