PETALING JAYA – The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) will continue its prosecution of Patrick Khoo Kian Wui, known as Uncle Patrick, despite the withdrawal of the police report against him.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal confirmed this to magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapa during a case management, here, this morning.
She also confirmed that police had taken a statement from a Petaling Jaya City Council officer about withdrawing the report.
Despite that, she told the court she had received instructions from the AGC to continue with the prosecution.
Khoo was charged on March 31 for obstructing a Petaling Jaya City Council officer from discharging his duty.
Prior to his day in court, Khoo made headlines when a video featuring him having a scuffle with the officer was circulated on social media.
In the video, he was seen being roughed up by the officer, who was catching stray dogs during a round-up operation. The 69-year-old man was attempting to keep his dogs from being captured during the operation.
Khoo later lodged a police report against the officer on March 24 out of fear for his dogs’ welfare.
In today’s proceeding, he was represented by lawyers Rajsurian Pillai and Tay Chee Fu, who informed the court that the defence would be submitting a representation letter to the AGC.
An accused in a criminal case would normally send a representation letter to the AGC requesting that the chambers review their charge, either to reduce or to drop it.
Khoo was also present today, where Rajsurian told the court that his client was unwell, explaining why he was wheeled into the dock.
