MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for 10 states  

It says heavy rain, strong winds expected to last until 9pm tonight

KUALA LUMPUR – MetMalaysia has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds affecting 10 states tonight.

The advisory, posted on Facebook at 5.10pm, indicates that heavy rain is expected to persist until 9pm tonight. 

The 10 states under warning include Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka, Perak, Labuan, Sabah, and Sarawak. 

According to the announcement, a warning is issued when there are indications of a thunderstorm with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour, expected to last for more than an hour. 

“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term advisory valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issuance,” it added. 

Areas particularly affected include Selangor (Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang), Negri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson, and Rembau), and Johor (Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru). 

Other impacted regions encompass Melaka (Alor Gajah) and Perak (Manjung, Perak Tengah, and Bagan Datuk). 

Sabah’s rural areas, Pantai Barat and Sandakan (Tongod), and Sarawak’s Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri, and Marudi), and Limbang are also affected. – December 2, 2023
