KUALA LUMPUR – Staff at the Kuala Terengganu court complex were in for a shock this morning, when a parcel suspected of being a bomb was found at the entrance of its premises.

Terengganu police chief said they received a report from a security guard at 7.30am after discovering the parcel at around 6.45am.

“Following the report, a team of officers from Kuala Terengganu criminal investigations division and the state’s bomb disposal unit were deployed to the scene.

“Checks at the location revealed a white-coloured packaging wrapped using A4 paper and filled with battery. We believe there is a bit of torchlight contained in the packaging,” he told Bernama when contacted, today.

He said the team made the decision to dispose of the package, which was believed to have been placed sometime last night, and does not contain any explosive elements.

The case item, Mazli said, was sent to the state forensics unit for further evaluation while the police team made a full sweep throughout the complex.

“It was found that there were no elements that could threaten security at the location, but we wil continue to patrol and monitor the area as a precaution,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. – January 18, 2024
