KUALA LUMPUR – Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 28, the mother of autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, 6, has marked her son’s posthumous graduation from preschool.

In a post on Instagram, she shared a series of photos of the convocation ceremony for the preschool at SK Damansara Damai 2, where Zayn had been a student.

“Congratulations! Mommy is proud of each of Abang’s (Zayn’s) achievements. No matter how big or small your achievements are, mommy is still proud,” she wrote.

Ismanira included a video of herself and husband Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, 28, and their other child going up on stage to receive Zayn’s preschool graduation certificate, to which others in attendance applauded loudly when the boy’s name was announced.

She also posted a photo which she said she had edited to capture herself posing with Zayn in a graduation gown.

“Mommy can’t take a picture with (Zayn) like other parents, so mommy edited like this,” she said.

Ismanira was also most proud with a trophy awarded to Zayn for “Best Improvement” in class.

She also thanked SK Damansara Damai 2 for inviting her to the convocation ceremony.

“I am sad, madam. If I were in your place, I don’t know how I would feel. My tears fell again today,” said X user @ika_yusof reacting to a photo of Zayn’s school bag and a graduation bouquet.

“Every picture I see, all I shed are tears,” said user @zaty_zairuddin.

Zayn was reported missing on December 5 and his body was discovered the following day near a shallow stream a short distance from his residence at Idaman Apartments.

Based on post-mortem findings, the child was murdered, with police believing the deed was done in a separate location before the body was placed in the stream.

Police have yet to find a suspect after taking the testimonies of more than 200 people. – February 2, 2024
