KUALA LUMPUR – The police report made by Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib, wife of former Sarawak governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, over claims that she had “absconded” her husband from a hospital has been referred to the Sarawak police.

Speaking to Scoop, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid confirmed that Raghad had lodged a report at the Brickfields police headquarters on February 13.

“We (Kuala Lumpur police) will not be investigating the report (as) it has been referred to the Sarawak police.”

Earlier today, Raghad said she is prepared to cooperate with the police in any investigation and will not hesitate to pursue legal action against the private hospital in Sarawak if necessary.

This comes after a staff member in the hospital filed a report on February 4 alleging that Raghad had removed her husband “despite being advised to have the patient stay in the hospital for proper and adequate treatment”.

Responding to the claims, she said the accusations were “demonstrably false and deeply concerning”, adding that the doctor in charge had cleared Taib’s discharge on February 3 after being informed of his scheduled appointment at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL).

She also said the “poor treatment and inconsistent medical advice” from the hospital in question should be investigated, dismissing allegations that she had voluntarily removed Taib’s medications by herself without alerting the staff on duty.

Earlier this month, the Syrian-born Raghad had also called a stop to speculation and accusations against her, stating that her only concern was to care for her husband.

Previously, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the kidnapping claims did not make sense and were based on “inaccurate rumours” not sourced from police. – February 18, 2024
