KOTA KINABALU – Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) is testing fish sold at the Inanam night market for prohibited colouring.
DBKK director-general Junainah Abbie said a fishmonger suspected of tainting fish for sale had been identified and was being investigated.
Samples from the seller have been taken and sent to a Health Ministry laboratory for testing, before further action is taken, she said in a statement today.
The said fish products were spotted during a joint operation by DBKK’s hawkers’ management unit, the town environmental health department, and the Health Ministry from 7 to 9.30pm at the Inanam night market site.
Junainah said DBKK was still waiting for a detailed lab report from the Health Ministry, expected to be completed in the nearest time.
“If it was proven (that the fishmonger used prohibited colouring) then we would take stern action against the seller,” she said.
She added that DBKK and the Health Ministry would expand their operations to other parts of the district to ensure that all fish sellers obeyed the instructions to protect the health of consumers. – February 20, 2024
