KUALA LUMPUR – Prasarana is searching for a man who was recorded touching his private parts on a LRT train in a viral video taken by a female passenger.

In a statement, Prasarana said that it had contacted the victim to obtain more information about the suspect.

It has also viewed closed circuit camera (CCTV) recordings as part of its investigation into the incident that occurred on a LRT train on the Ampang/Sri Petaling line.

“The incident was reported to have happened on March 4 at around 8.10pm, involving a male passenger who sexually harassed the victim, while travelling from the Masjid Jamek LRT station to Sentul Timur.

“The follow-up action to trace the suspect is being actively carried out by Prasarana’s auxiliary police team,” Prasarana said.

Prasarana also urged all passengers who have experienced sexual harassment while using public transportation to lodge reports with the company, so that immediate action can be taken.

“Prasarana’s auxiliary police team will also increase the number of officers to carry out patrols on trains, in addition to ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers are given priority,” it said.

Yesterday, a woman shared her experience of being confronted with inappropriate sexual behaviour from an elderly man while on the LRT.

She posted a 24-second video on X of the man who acted indecently by touching his private parts while staring at her. She said the man gestured to her and asked her to follow him when he got off the train. – March 6, 2024
