KUALA LUMPUR – Another KK Mart branch was attacked using a molotov cocktail this morning.
The incident, which occurred at 5.14am at its Sg Isap, Kuantan branch resulted in a small fire at the mart’s entrance, said Kuantan police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu.
“Investigation revealed that the incident had occurred at 5.14am, during which a female cashier was having a suhoor meal (pre-dawn meal before fasting) at the payment counter while another male worker was arranging items on the back shelf.
“The witness was suddenly startled when a molotov cocktail was thrown from outside the premise, landing on the carpet at the entrance of KK Mart, resulting in a small fire,” he added.
The other staffer, in a state of panic, quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher and extinguished the fire before it spread further, he added.
“The lady who is the cashier reached out to both the Kuantan police headquarters and the Fire Department to report the incident.
“Following the incident, four sales shelves in the mart were affected, with several items damaged by the fire.
“The KK Mart premises were operational for only two weeks.
“The investigating officer said they will review CCTV footage from adjacent premises to identify the suspect and gather further information.
“There were no casualties, but KK Mart suffered an estimated loss of RM500 due to the incident,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code, he added.
Last week, a KK Mart convenience store in Bidor, Perak, was attacked with a molotov cocktail attack.
The petrol bomb, which was thrown at the convenience store’s Jalan Bruseh outlet, however, landed in an empty area and failed to ignite. – March 30, 2024
