KUALA LUMPUR – Police confirmed that a shooting incident had occurred early this morning at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA1), resulting in one victim being seriously injured.
In a statement, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that in the 1.30am incident, a male suspect, targeting his wife, missed and hit a bodyguard instead.
“At the time of the incident, the suspect’s wife was believed to be waiting for umrah pilgrims to return.
“The suspect fired two shots at his wife. However, one of the bullets hit a local man who is a bodyguard.”
“After the shooting, the man escaped,” he added.
Hussien said police have identified the suspect and the operation to track him down is currently underway.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect is believed to have fled to the north,” he said.
He also added that the incident is personal and not linked to any terrorist activity.
The motive behind the incident is still under police investigation and the case is classified as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code and the Firearms Act.
“People are reminded not to speculate regarding the incident.
“The situation at KLIA1 is under control and safe,” he said.
Earlier, a video of the shooting emerged on social media, capturing the sound of screams and showing people ducking down.
Another video showed the supposed victim being pushed on a stretcher by emergency personnel. – April 14, 2024
