[UPDATED] Unity govt to draft MoU on funds for opposition: DPM

DPM Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof says leaders unanimously agreed on allocations to support constituencies after reported meeting at Seri Perdana

KUALA LUMPUR – The government will draft a memorandum of understanding concerning funds for opposition MPs to support their constituencies.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that the unity government leaders unanimously agreed to allocate funds to parliamentarians in the opposition.

The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister said the draft will be drawn up and extended to the opposition for further discussions.

This agreement was reached at the unity government leadership council’s meeting held at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya yesterday, the unity government chief whip said.

“The meeting, which lasted for more than an hour, was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and attended by top leaders of component parties in the unity government,” he said in a statement today.

This was following Fadillah’s discussion with opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin in Parliament on March 19.

“The opposition said they want allocations, and any conditions (to provide allocations) are up to the government,” he said.

Last year, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man reportedly said that three Perikatan Nasional MPs – opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Kota Bharu MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, and Putrajaya MP Datuk Radzi Jidin – were appointed to hold negotiations with Fadillah. – April 18, 2024
