PUTRAJAYA – The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has announced that one million fleet cards are currently available for the Subsidised Diesel Control System 2.0 (SKDS 2.0).

Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has said that approximately 410,000 diesel vehicles, which fall under the 23 eligible vehicle categories defined by SKDS 2.0, will be able to use these fleet cards.

During the initial phase of the system, the ministry collaborated with five petrol companies – Petronas, Shell Malaysia, Petron, Boustead Petroleum Marketing Sdn Bhd (BHPetrol) and Caltex – to implement the targeted subsidy initiative.

Currently, each transport company can hold up to three fleet cards from any of the five designated oil companies.

When asked about the possibility of consolidating to a single fleet card for user convenience, Armizan said it would be considered in the future.

He said the existing system helped reduce government expenditure on preparing fleet cards, allowing resources to be allocated to other new systems.

“The government has not abolished the diesel subsidy, it still exists but is being re-targeted to address long-standing issues of leakage from blanket subsidies,” Armizan said during the SKDS 2.0 Open Day programme at the ministry’s headquarters, here today.

Additionally, the Finance Ministry will provide RM200 in cash assistance to households using diesel vehicles, either for individual or agri-commodity purposes.

The minister noted that the monthly limit for subsidised diesel usage would be determined later.

Transport companies can apply for the subsidy through the ministry’s MySubsidi Diesel system, and, once approved by SKDS, they can obtain their fleet cards from the participating oil companies.

Armizan added that registration for the 23 vehicle types could be completed at https://mysubsidi.kpdn.gov.my/. To qualify for the subsidy, companies must be registered businesses in Malaysia, and have valid and up-to-date road tax for their vehicles, apart from meeting the system’s eligibility criteria. – May 30, 2024
