Book vouchers for students: MoE, MoHE unaligned on distribution method?

Fadhlina Sidek, in a statement, says those eligible can claim through its Delima app via Kota Buku Digital feature, but Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir says mechanism will be disclosed later

KUALA LUMPUR – Starting 2pm today, students in government schools and universities can claim their book vouchers via the Education Ministry’s Delima app.

According to a statement from the ministry, to access the app, students have to log into the Delima app and click on the Kota Buku Digital icon.

They will have to register a Kota Buku Digital account and the credit will be displayed accordingly.

Students will then be able to choose the book titles they want and check out.

For payment, they will need to pick the e-store credit option. The book will then be delivered to the registered address.

However, according to Higher Education Minister (MoHE) Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, the distribution of the book vouchers, benefiting 1.2 million recipients from primary school to tertiary students, will be carried out in stages.

Zambry said further details on the voucher distribution mechanism would be disclosed by secretary-general Datuk Seri Zaini Ujang later today.

“We might implement it in phases, such as at the university, polytechnic and other levels.

“We have already convened a meeting, and he (Zaini) will outline the approach or steps to expedite the book voucher distribution,” he told reporters following the MoHE monthly assembly.

“The announcement of the book vouchers was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, so it is our responsibility to devise an approach for its timely implementation.

“The prime minister intends for it to commence this evening,” he added.

Anwar announced yesterday that the government would give RM50 book vouchers to Year 4 to 6 students, and RM100 to students in secondary and tertiary institutions, including those in teaching institutions. – May 31, 2024
