KUALA LUMPUR – Proton Holdings Bhd has apologised for the mislabelling of the states of Sabah and Sarawak at the launch of its first electric vehicle (EV) yesterday.

In a statement on social media, the company acknowledged an error in a presentation slide mislabelling Sabah and Sarawak at the launch and deeply regretted the mistake.

“We deeply regret this mistake and understand the sensitivities it stirred among our fellow Malaysians,” it said.

Proton said it holds the unity and diversity of Malaysia in the highest regard and is committed to respecting and celebrating all states equally.

“We sincerely apologise for any misunderstanding caused and appreciate any feedback from the public,” it added.

Yesterday, the national carmaker unveiled its EV brand, named e.MAS, for its upcoming EV models.

Proton said the acronym represents the goal of electrifying Malaysia, combining the “e” symbol for EVs with the widely recognised MAS abbreviation for the country, reflecting its mission to electrify mobility for Malaysians through its upcoming EV models. – June 13, 2024
