KUALA LUMPUR – PAS has dismissed the contentious notion that the party is interested in joining the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) government.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man insisted that, to this day, the party would never support the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He also criticised Umno’s supreme council for abandoning the party’s previous principles for the sole purpose of being under Anwar’s administration.
“News implying that PAS was negotiating to join the unity government went viral. Podah! (As if!) I emphasise that PAS will not join the PH-BN government,” he said.
“There are no negotiations, discussions, internal parties, or joint meetings. We have no reason to champion the government like Umno, which campaigned with ‘No DAP, No Anwar’ to the people.
“What happened after the 15th General Election? They kowtowed and broke their oath. During the campaigns, PH attacked Umno with ‘hoi hoi yahoi’ and various other attacks.
“The people believed that Umno would not support Anwar and DAP, and Umno supporters voted for the party. Suddenly, they breached the party’s decision after the election.”
Tuan Ibrahim, who is also Kubang Kerian MP, said this at a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah for the Sg Bakap by-election last night.
He reiterated PAS’ unwavering stance of not cooperating with Anwar or DAP, despite receiving various pressures, including the lack of fund allocations by the federal government for opposition constituencies.
“We (PAS) promise to the people: ‘No Anwar, No DAP’. We will uphold this promise until the upcoming elections, even though we do not get allocations,” he said.
Previously, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said multiple discussions were conducted about a coalition between the unity government and the opposition.
“(There are) a lot of discussions,” he briefly said when asked by the media, without elaborating further. – June 23, 2024
