GEORGE TOWN – Former adult star Siew Pui Yi, better known as Ms Puiyi, has been awarded RM4.3 million by the Penang High Court in a suit she brought against her former business associate Lai Kai Jian.

Siew had sued Lai, also known as “Mentos”, accusing him of defrauding her of RM4.3 million under the pretext of settling her tax arrears with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

The court delivered its judgment in default on July 26.

In a statement, Siew said Lai did not appear in court and did not file any documents related to this case from his side.

“Therefore, my solicitor has filed a judgment in default (JID) against Mentos (Lai) on July 26, 2024, and we have successfully obtained the JID for the amount of RM4.3 million.”

Siew was represented by lawyer K. Mahendran.

It was reported that Lai’s whereabouts had yet to be determined, with no developments in a report lodged with the North-East district police in Penang.

Siew filed the suit against 29-year-old Lai, who was the director of her company, in April.

The 26-year-old model and disc jockey said Lai was asked to settle the firm’s tax arrears with LHDN last year, only to learn that he failed to resolve the arrears, leading to her having incurred “significant losses”.

She also said she found out about the embezzlement from her company, PY Empire Sdn Bhd, in June 2022.

Siew had since lodged a police report over the matter on October 24 last year. – July 29, 2024
