KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will have his statement recorded by police over his recent speech that allegedly touched on 3R (race, religion, royalty) issues at the offices of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) in Jalan Sentral, here, tomorrow morning.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told Sinar Harian police will meet Muhyiddin there at 11am regarding his recent speech during the Nenggiri by-election, in which he mentioned the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“We will record his (Muhyiddin) testimony at 11am at Mida.
“So far, we have received 30 reports from various parties regarding the matter,” Razarudin was quoted as saying.
The Bersatu president and Pagoh MP is under fire for his comments speaking about the former Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
In a video posted on TikTok, Muhyiddin in his speech while campaigning in Nenggiri said he had sufficient support from MPs to become prime minister, but was not invited by Sultan Abdullah to form the federal government following the 2022 general election.
He has faced widespread criticism from across the political spectrum, with DAP lawmaker R.S.N. Rayer calling for him to be investigated for sedition.
Today, the PN chief encountered a fresh wave of criticism, including a formal reprimand from Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, the Pahang crown prince.
Muhyiddin has faced police questioning previously for allegedly inciting 3R issues during various by-elections, including those in Pulai, Simpang Jeram and Kemaman last year.
During the Pulai by-election, Muhyiddin reportedly claimed that voting for Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate, Suhaizan Kaiat, was “haram”. Despite this, PH secured victory with an 18,641-vote majority over PN’s Zulkifli Jaafar.
During the Kemaman by-election, Muhyiddin was criticised for declaring a “fatwa” encouraging Umno members to leave the party. – August 19, 2024
