Muhyiddin will not name the 115 MPs: Salleh Keruak

Perikatan chief’s credibility would be tarnished if any of the lawmakers deny his claim, says former Umno treasurer

KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would never name the 115 MPs because the number is merely his assumption, said former Umno treasurer Datuk Salleh Said Keruak.

This is because Muhyiddin’s credibility would be at stake if any of the MPs were to deny the claim, he added.

The 115 MPs had supposedly backed him to become prime minister in 2022.

“He (Muhyiddin) does not have that much support, and it is just his own assumption. If the MPs do not want to verify (his claim), then Perikatan Nasional (PN) will push him from his position as PN chairman to be replaced with a leader who has credibility and is wise,” Salleh said in a Facebook post today.

Salleh’s response was following Muhyiddin’s speech during the Nenggiri state by-election campaign in Kelantan last week, in which the latter claimed to have obtained a majority to become prime minister in 2022.

Several police reports were lodged against Muhyiddin over his remarks, while Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah called for police action against Muhyiddin.

Police are expected to record Muhyiddin’s statement on the matter tomorrow. – August 20, 2024
