THE scene around the sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur, where a woman fell into on Friday after the pavement suddenly gave way is now quieter, as the search operation for the victim has moved to the area’s surrounding sewerage channels underground.

Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department’s scuba unit, dressed in protective gear, are lowered into manholes and must face toxic fumes in the sewer as they search for the victim, identified as Vijayalaksmi, 48, a tourist from India. The search for her has entered Day 3, but she is yet to be found. – August 25, 2024
