KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged all Malaysians to rally behind the national squad competing in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025.

“Our warriors will do battle with the West Indies at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval in Klang at 10.30 am tomorrow. This match will determine whether our team advances to the next round.

“Come on, Malaysia. Let’s give our full support to our Under-19 women’s cricket team. The prayers of all Malaysians are with you!” he posted on Facebook today.

Malaysian Cricket Association president Mohammed Iqbal Ali Kassim Ali expressed gratitude for Anwar’s encouragement ahead of the crucial match.

He praised the prime minister for exemplifying true leadership by taking the time to motivate the country’s young cricketers.

“As the prime minister showcases Malaysia as a dynamic nation on the global stage, so too do our athletes, who act as young ambassadors, bringing the ‘brand Malaysia’ to the world through sports.

“They can step onto the field with confidence, knowing the entire country is rooting for them,” he said in a statement.

India currently lead the group based on net run rate, despite being tied with Sri Lanka on four points. The West Indies and Malaysia follow in third and fourth places, respectively.

Only the top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six round, where the 12 remaining teams will compete for semi-final spots.

The bottom-placed teams in the group stage will vie in the 13th-16th place playoff. — January 22, 2025
