PUTRAJAYA — The Education Ministry is investigated a teacher who allegedly told her students to “go back to China” for not being fluent in Malay.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek said this is in addition to the police probe into the same matter, adding that any racist behaviour in schools would never be compromised.

“I would like to emphasise that the MOE does not compromise with racism in schools, whether involving teachers, students or any officers.

“In this case, the internal investigation is already underway and we will take action based on the investigation findings,” Bernama reported her saying.

Fadhlina was commenting on the audio clip of a female teacher who allegedly admitting in a phone call that she had told her secondary school students to “go back to China” for not being able to understand the Malay language. The audio clip was shared on social media and went viral.

Her remarks today confirm a statement by an unnamed ministry spokesman who told media two days ago that an internal probe would be conducted.

In the audio clip of a phone call between a man and the teacher, the man who claimed to be a relative of a student confronted the teacher over claims by students that she had told those weak in Malay to “go back to China”.

The teacher, who admitted to it in the phone call, asked the man to disclose his identity and threatened to report him for invading her privacy, and also warned the caller that her husband, a police officer, would track him down. – March 24, 2025
