KUALA LUMPUR – Independent mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie cruised into the quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) in Ningbo, China, after defeating Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran in straight sets today.

The third-seeded pair won 21-17, 21-14 against the Thai pair.

Soon Huat and Shevon will meet the Indonesian pair Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Pasaribu tomorrow for a spot in the semifinals. The Indonesians beat the Chinese Taipei pair of Chen Cheng Kuan and Hsun-Yin Hui 21-9, 21-7.

However, it was not the same for another mixed doubles Malaysian pair, Yap Roy King and Valeree Siow, who lost to Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito 6-21, 16-21.

After an incredible comeback win against South Korea’s Hyeok Jin-jeon yesterday, men’s singles player Justin Hoh failed to keep the momentum going as he lost 13-21, 19-21 to world number four Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in the second round today.

At the same time, independent women’s singles player Goh Jin Wei was eliminated by Thailand’s Supanida Katethong 15-21, 16-21. – April 10, 2025
