PUTRAJAYA — There is no need for any Education Ministry (MoE) official to resign over its erroneous depiction of the Jalur Gemilang in a report, Minister Fadhlina Sidek said today.
She said MoE’s internal investigation into the mistake is ongoing and calls for resignations are premature before the probe is concluded.
“We leave it to the investigation. We don’t compromise when it comes to this,” she told reporters after the MOE-MSSM-Milo Sports Awards here today.
“It involves a very serious offence and is still under investigation. We give room for a full investigation, with full responsibility and integrity.
“(We need the investigation) so we don’t repeat this grave mistake — it affects all of us,” she added.
The mistake appeared last week on a MoE report analysing Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exam results which were released recently.
It was the latest in a string of errors involving wrong depictions of the national flag, starting with the one by Sin Chew Daily on its front page showing the Jalur Gemilang without a crescent moon.
In MoE’s case, the ministry swiftly spotted the error and issued a formal apology, and also recalled all printed copies of the report with a promise to issue corrected versions.
Apart from Sin Chew, a Singaporean company which had a booth at a baby expo in Kuala Lumpur, also used the Jalur Gemilang without a crescent moon.
The Prime Minister’s Office has warned against lax oversight and stressed the importance of safeguarding national symbols, regardless of whether the mistake is the result of human error or AI-generated content. – April 29, 2025
