KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has officially taken over as Inspector-General of Police (IGP), succeeding Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, with effect from today.
The handover ceremony was held at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol), here, and witnessed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Also in attendance were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and senior officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Prior to the ceremony, Saifuddin presented Khalid with his official appointment letter and conferred upon him the rank of IGP.
“Based on his extensive experience in policing, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail possesses strong competence and leadership qualities to continue the legacy and responsibilities of leading the police force,” Saifuddin said in a statement.
Khalid, 60, previously served as director of Bukit Aman’s Special Branch Department and brings with him a long and distinguished career in the police force. Born on April 8, 1965 in Manong, Perak, he began his policing career in 1987.
From 2014 to 2018, he was posted as Police Attaché at the Malaysian Embassy in London. Upon returning, he was appointed Pahang Special Branch Chief in May 2018, and later served as Principal Assistant Director of E2 at Bukit Aman’s Special Branch from September 2021. In 2023, he was promoted to head the entire department.
Meanwhile, Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay remains as Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
Saifuddin also expressed the government’s gratitude to Razarudin, who officially concluded his two-year tenure as IGP following his appointment on June 23, 2023.
