KUALA LUMPUR – MyKiosk stalls in Selangor that remain unoccupied for more than three months will be relocated to better sites, as the state government seeks to ensure the RM20 million federal initiative benefits traders as intended.
State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Ng Suee Lim said all 12 local councils must monitor the placement of kiosks and take corrective steps if the units are left idle.
“I’ve instructed all PBTs to ensure orderly placement at suitable sites. If the kiosks remain unoccupied after three months, we can relocate them to better areas,” he told the Selangor State Assembly today. He was responding to Taman Medan assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin, who raised concerns over kiosk locations and deposit requirements.
Ng said 1,028 kiosks have been built across the state under the MyKiosk programme, with a total cost of RM20.33 million. Of this, RM19.5 million was funded by the Housing and Local Government Ministry, while local councils covered RM822,211 in site preparation costs. Each unit costs an average of RM19,785.80, including structural and groundwork expenses.
MyKiosk, a federal initiative under the Housing and Local Government Ministry, is intended to support micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS) by offering affordable rental space and improving household incomes.
However, the programme has come under scrutiny following a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation into alleged irregularities in the project’s tender process.
On July 2, MACC confirmed a preliminary probe had begun after a political party lodged a complaint. The Governance Investigation Division is also conducting a parallel inquiry.
The investigation, launched under the MACC Act 2009, focuses on possible corruption and procedural breaches. The ministry has submitted all procurement documents and maintains that contractor appointments were made by 133 local councils through an open quotation process.
