KUALA LUMPUR – Jho Low, the former playboy financier linked to the massive 1MDB corruption scandal, is now living under the name Constantinos Achilles Veis in an affluent neighborhood in Shanghai.

According to Wall Street Journal reporters Bradley Hope and Tom Wright, Low is residing in a mansion in Green Hills, a very upscale area in Shanghai.

In a recent live stream titled “Finding Jho Low,” Hope and Wright revealed, based on evidence from multiple sources and newly discovered documents, that Low is using a “fake Australian passport” under the name Constantinos Achilles Veis to conceal his identity while moving around China.

Additionally, they claimed that Low is now acting as a “behind-the-scenes strategist for the Chinese government,” assisting sanctioned Chinese companies in navigating global challenges.

Since the corruption scandal began to unravel in 2015, Low has been on the run, initially believed to be in Taiwan, a country without an extradition treaty with Malaysia or the US.

Low, who was at the center of the embezzlement of over $4.5 billion from the 1MDB Malaysian development fund, used the stolen funds to purchase luxury properties in the U.S., as well as art, a private jet, and a superyacht.

He also ingratiated himself with Hollywood, notably forming a close relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio, who starred in the 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street,” which the US Department of Justice later claimed was financed with misappropriated Malaysian money.

DiCaprio even acknowledged Low in his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes in 2014. – July 19, 2025
