KUALA LUMPUR – Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi clarified that the total RM48.87 billion in programmes, activities, and projects that were audited does not indicate any financial leakages or losses, contrary to reports from some media outlets.
“Such statements have the potential to create confusion and unfounded negative perceptions of the country’s financial management,” she said in a statement today.
Wan Suraya explained that the audit’s scope considers the performance of various programmes and projects implemented over previous years, including any government initiatives.
The 2025 Auditor-General’s Report (LKAN) Series 2 addresses issues related to the activities of ministries, departments, statutory bodies, and federal government-owned companies, based on audits of five programs across seven ministries.
Each finding in the report comes with constructive recommendations aimed at helping improve the operational efficiency and compliance of ministries and government agencies.
She noted that 44 issues highlighted in the LKAN have been uploaded to the Auditor-General’s Dashboard (AGD) for follow-up by the relevant ministries and departments.
These issues will also be discussed in meetings of the Auditor-General’s Report Follow-Up Committee (JSLKAN) and the Serious Irregularities Action Committee (JTKS), co-chaired by the Auditor-General and the Secretary-General of the Treasury.
From 2024 to June 2025, audits by the National Audit Department (JAN) have helped the government recover RM157.73 million, which includes collections from penalties, outstanding rents, liquidated damages, land lease arrears, and duties and taxes.
She mentioned that this report will be debated in the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow.
The public is encouraged to refer to the Auditor-General’s Report, which is officially available on the National Audit Department’s website at www.audit.gov.my, for an accurate and detailed understanding of the audit findings. — July 22, 2025
