KUALA LUMPUR – A dog discovered with its skin torn off in Krubong, Melaka, has triggered shock and condemnation from animal welfare groups, after images appeared to show the animal still alive and suffering with exposed, dried flesh.
The Stray Animals Federation Malaysia (SAFM) described the act as “inhumane” and demanded that authorities, particularly the police and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), launch an immediate investigation.
“Animal abuse is a serious offence that must be met with the full force of the law,” SAFM said in a statement today, calling for harsh penalties against those responsible.
Under the Animal Welfare Act 2015, offenders can face fines of up to RM100,000, a jail term of up to three years, or both, if found guilty of cruelty or neglect.
SAFM also appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward, stressing that public cooperation is vital in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
