KUALA LUMPUR – A drug syndicate smuggling methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) disguised in vape liquids worth almost RM1.5 million has been dismantled following a series of police raids across the Klang Valley.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said nine suspects — five local Chinese men, three local Chinese women and a Thai woman — aged between 24 and 34, were arrested during the seven operations carried out on August 22.

“During the raids, we seized 3,587.5 grammes of MDMA valued at RM215,220, 7,600 millilitres of MDMA cartridges worth RM1.14 million, and 39,000 millilitres of MDMA liquid in bottles worth RM130,000.

“The total seizures are capable of supplying more than 35,000 drug users at one time,” he told Scoop.

The first operation took place at 7.45pm at a condominium in Jalan Kuchai Jaya, where a man and a woman were detained and drugs recovered.

Later that night, officers arrested a 29-year-old Thai woman in Taman Pertama, where black vape cartridges were found. More arrests followed in Taman Kobena, Taman Kuchai Jaya, Jalan Kepong and Jalan Pudu Perdana.

Fadil said the syndicate’s modus operandi involved using luxury gated and guarded condominiums as processing and storage centres.

“They employed runners to distribute the substances around the Klang Valley. Based on our intelligence, this group has been active since late 2024,” he added.

Five of the suspects have been remanded until August 29 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment with not less than 12 strokes of the cane.

Four others were released after their remand applications were rejected, while urine screenings on all suspects tested negative.

Police also confiscated assets linked to the syndicate valued at RM1.53 million, including RM533,000 in cash, four luxury cars — a BMW, two Mercedes-Benz vehicles and a Ford Mustang — two Rolex watches, gold jewellery and branded handbags from Dior and Chanel.

“This operation was made possible through continuous intelligence and public cooperation. We will not compromise with anyone involved in drug trafficking.

“The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department will continue to act aggressively to ensure society is protected from the nation’s number one enemy,” Fadil said, urging the public to channel information through the Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-2087222. — August 28, 2025
