KUALA LUMPUR – Afdlin Shauki Foundation has expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its swift action in helping secure the release and repatriation of Malaysian activists detained in Israel after joining the Global Sumud Flotilla mission to Gaza.

The foundation, founded by filmmaker, musician, and politician Datuk Afdlin Shauki, conveyed appreciation on behalf of Malaysians, families of the flotilla participants, and mission volunteers.

Afdlin said the gesture recognised Türkiye’s “moral courage, sincerity, and true humanity” in supporting the humanitarian cause.

“It is not just from me or the foundation — this gratitude comes from the hearts of every Malaysian, the families of flotilla participants, and all who embody this struggle for humanity,” Afdlin said in a statement today.

He praised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s leadership, describing Türkiye’s support as an act of brotherhood that transcended diplomatic ties. “In a world full of trials, Türkiye has shown the true meaning of solidarity, bravery, and humanity,” he added.

To mark the appreciation, a symbolic handover of a letter of thanks and flowers was held at the Turkish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur at 1pm today.

Afdlin said Malaysia’s bond with Turkiye was rooted not only in diplomacy but also in shared faith and humanitarian values.

“On behalf of Malaysians and all who joined the Global Sumud Flotilla, we thank the government and people of Türkiye. May God bless them with lasting grace and mercy,” he said. — October 5, 2025
