KUALA LUMPUR — Despite their involvement in a serious sexual assault case, the four male students will still be allowed to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek confirmed today.
“Yes, the SPM examination will begin on Nov 3, and the students involved will still be allowed to sit for it. We will also ensure that they do not fall behind in their studies,” she said.
The decision comes amid ongoing investigations into the alleged sexual assault of a Form Three female student at a school here last week. The Ministry of Education (MOE) has since extended emotional support to the victim, who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and ongoing support from medical staff.
Fadhlina reiterated that all necessary actions have been taken by the relevant authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the student.
“All necessary actions have been taken by the relevant departments, particularly to ensure the protection and well-being of the student,” she said after a meeting with the leadership of the Melaka Education Department and the state police today.
Also present at the meeting were Education Director-General Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, Melaka Education Department Director Mahfudzah Mohamed Noor, and Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar.
The Ministry is also addressing issues related to discipline and offering emotional support to both teachers and students at the school.
“Counsellors will be assigned to provide full support to the school staff and students. We are also giving special attention to teachers handling SPM subjects and students who will be sitting for the examination,” Fadhlina added.
The case has now been handed over to the police for further legal action.
Yesterday, Melaka Police Chief Dzulkhairi confirmed that four Form Five students had been remanded for six days, from Oct 11 to 16, on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female student at the school on Oct 2.
The incident, which took place around 2.50pm, was recorded on a mobile phone by two of the suspects. It came to light after the victim’s mother was informed by a teacher about the circulation of the video, which led her to file a police report. – October 12, 2025
