KUALA LUMPUR – Authorities will take stringent action against any demonstrations or rallies that obstruct traffic or disrupt the proceedings of the 47th Asean Summit, said Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus.
The Kuala Lumpur police chief revealed that intelligence has been gathered regarding planned protests during the summit.
“We have engaged with the organisers of these rallies,” he said today, as quoted by The Star.
“We will take stern action against any gatherings that cause traffic disruptions, interfere with the Asean Summit, or endanger public order,” he added.
In preparation for the event, several roads in the city centre will be closed and redirected in phases from October 26 to 28. This announcement was made earlier by JSPT director, Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
“We urge the public to avoid these affected routes or opt for public transportation. Plan your trips carefully to avoid getting caught in traffic jams,” he advised.
Comm Fadil also called for public cooperation, urging individuals to adhere to the instructions of traffic police and officers.
He commended the Education Ministry for allowing students from 102 schools to study from home during the summit period.
“All eyes are on Malaysia as the host nation,” he noted. “We hope everyone will do their part to ensure the success of the event.”
Over 10,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain safety and security during the summit. – October 21, 2025
