KUALA LUMPUR — A sudden downpour this afternoon caused rainwater to overflow from KLIA’s roof-integrated water collection beams, spilling into the main terminal building and affecting areas near the check-in counters.
Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing water cascading from the ceiling and pooling on the floor.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) confirmed the incident in a statement posted on Facebook, attributing the leakage to storm-related overflow.
“Our teams are on high alert and are prioritising passenger safety, containment efforts, and the protection of electrical systems,” the post read.
Engineering, operations, and safety personnel were deployed immediately to manage the situation.
MAHB added that it is working closely with airline partners to minimise operational disruptions, and that enhanced monitoring remains in place as thunderstorms are expected to continue until around 6pm.
No injuries were reported, and flight operations appeared to continue with minimal delays. – November 14, 2025
