KUALA LUMPUR – The government has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping families of those aboard the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 informed, after the latest search effort in the southern Indian Ocean concluded without confirming the aircraft’s location.
In an update today, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Ministry of Transport said the search was carried out following an agreement signed with marine robotics company Ocean Infinity on March 25 last year.
The agreement covered a seabed search in a new area of about 15,000 square kilometres in the southern Indian Ocean under a “no find, no fee” arrangement.
According to the bureau, the operation was conducted in two phases: March 25 to 28, 2025, and Dec 31, 2025 to Jan 23, 2026.
Across both phases, a total of 28 operational search days were undertaken, during which approximately 7,571 square kilometres of seabed within the defined search area were surveyed.
Ocean Infinity also indicated that additional survey activities had been carried out within the broader search area before the agreement was formally signed in March 2025 to support the mission.
The bureau noted that operations were periodically affected by adverse weather and sea conditions, with the second phase concluding on Jan 23 this year.
“As of this update, the search activities undertaken have not yielded any findings that confirm the location of the aircraft wreckage,” it said.
However, the government stressed that it remains committed to keeping families informed and will continue to provide updates as appropriate.
Today marks the 12th anniversary of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappearance, when the aircraft vanished while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew on board.
Despite one of the most extensive aviation search efforts ever undertaken, led by Malaysia with support from Australia and China, the aircraft has yet to be located. Debris believed to be from MH370 has since been found along coastlines in the western Indian Ocean, including Mozambique, Madagascar and Réunion Island. – March 8, 2026
