Malaysia Airlines assures no domestic fare hikes for Hari Raya travellers

National carrier maintains fixed fares and adds extra flights to accommodate festive travel demand

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airlines has rejected reports suggesting that domestic airfares would increase during the Hari Raya travel period.

Earlier reports claimed that “the price of airline tickets is expected to rise starting tomorrow as several major carriers announce adjustments to fuel surcharges due to increasing global oil prices.” Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and Batik Air were among the airlines cited, with notices indicating that the surcharges would be applied in phases to both domestic and international flights.

In a Facebook post, Malaysia Airlines clarified that its festive travel arrangements will remain unaffected.

The airline stressed that it will maintain fixed all-in-one-way fares throughout the Hari Raya period, ensuring affordable rates for passengers returning home.

“Whether it’s returning to familiar streets, gathering around the dinner table with loved ones, or simply being surrounded by family again, the journey home is always the most meaningful part of the celebration,” the airline said.

To support the anticipated increase in travel, Malaysia Airlines has added up to 1,557 extra flights during the festive season.

“Secure your seats early and plan your Raya journey with greater ease,” the post added.

The carrier reminded passengers that the sales period runs until March 29, with travel valid from March 17 to March 29, reiterating that no additional fare hikes will be applied during this timeframe.

However, Malaysia Airlines has not confirmed whether there will be any changes to fares for international routes.

Reports also noted that notices sent to agents and corporate partners confirm that the fuel surcharge will apply to all tickets issued on or after the effective date of March 10, 2026. – March 10, 2026
