Diesel, petrol prices drop for 23–29 April period: Finance Ministry

Diesel sees 85 sen reduction as global oil prices ease under automatic pricing mechanism

KUALA LUMPUR — Retail fuel prices for the week of April 23 to 29 have been revised downwards, with unsubsidised diesel recording a sharp decline of 85 sen to RM5.12 per litre, compared to RM5.97 previously.

The Ministry of Finance announced that unsubsidised RON97 has also been reduced by 25 sen, now retailing at RM4.85 per litre from RM5.10, while RON95 has dropped by 15 sen to RM3.87 per litre from RM4.02.

“In line with the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) formula for this week, retail prices of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia and retail prices of RON95 and RON97 petrol have been reduced following the decline in international market prices.

This week’s reduction is based on the APM formula, which takes into account the average price of the previous week.

Despite the adjustment, petroleum prices remain high compared to levels before the conflict,” the ministry said in a statement.

It added that amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the government will continue to monitor developments closely and take appropriate measures to safeguard supply security and shield citizens and the economy from the full impact of supply chain disruptions.

While global oil prices have shown signs of easing, volatility persists and supply recovery is not immediate.

“Disruptions to production facilities in West Asia as well as global logistics and shipping chains require time to stabilise. Accordingly, the Madani Government will continue to adopt a prudent approach to protect the people from price fluctuations,” the statement read.

The ministry further urged Malaysians to use fuel prudently to help reinforce national supply stability. “During this period, the public is encouraged to continue using fuel responsibly to help strengthen the stability of the country’s supply,” it added. – April 22, 2026
