KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has received 463 public requests to remove false online content related to the global supply crisis as of 7am today, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.

Fahmi, who is also the Madani Government spokesperson, said all requests had been submitted to the respective social media platform providers for further action in line with existing procedures.

Among the complaints received, Facebook recorded the highest number with 185 requests, followed by TikTok with 142 and Threads with 131.

“Of the 463 requests, 65 investigation papers have been opened.

“One case has been decided by the Attorney General’s Chambers for prosecution, while five cases have been recommended for compounds, and the rest are still under investigation,” he said during a briefing on the global supply crisis and at a post-Cabinet press conference here today.

He said the most commonly reported false content involved fuel prices and toll rates related to the Strait of Hormuz.

Fahmi also urged the public to practise the principle of tabayyun (seeking the truth) by verifying information before sharing it, particularly during sensitive situations that directly affect the economy and public wellbeing.

He stressed that responsible sharing of information is crucial in preventing unnecessary panic and confusion among the public. – April 22, 2026
