KUALA LUMPUR — Outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has urged all officers and staff to give their full support to his successor, former High Court judge Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman.
Azam said the MACC’s continued success depends on the dedication, professionalism and commitment of its officers at every level.
“I urge all MACC personnel to continue giving their full and undivided support to the new leadership,” he said in a statement today.
He also thanked the entire MACC workforce for their support and commitment throughout his tenure, stressing that the fight against corruption remains a shared and ongoing responsibility.
Welcoming Abdul Halim’s appointment, he said he was confident the leadership transition would further reinforce the nation’s integrity agenda.
Azam’s tenure ends on May 12. He has served as chief commissioner since his appointment in 2020, and his contract has been extended three times.
Azam expressed deep gratitude to Yang di-Pertuan Agong for consenting to extend his service contract each time.
“It was a great honour and a sign of confidence in my leadership,” he said.
Yesterday, the government announced Abdul Halim, 69, as the incoming MACC chief commissar, effective May 13.
Abdul Halim was elevated to High Court Judge in 2007, after serving as a judicial commissioner, magistrate, senior federal counsel, Pahang state legal adviser and as deputy public prosecutor.
Azam today also dismissed speculation about a possible move into politics.
“In my heart, I am not a politician. I am a civil servant, and my duty is to serve the people,” he said. – April 26, 2026
