KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has summoned an individual to assist in investigations over the uploading of highly offensive content targeting the Sultan of Selangor.

In a statement today, MCMC said it is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in probing the case, which involves extreme and offensive 3R (race, religion, royalty) elements directed at Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The commission said it has recorded a statement from an individual believed to be the administrator of the Facebook account “HuaYan The Pureland Learning Centre” at its headquarters in Cyberjaya today to assist in investigations.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the matter under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, while Section 504 of the Penal Code carries a penalty of a fine, imprisonment of up to two years, or both upon conviction.

MCMC stressed that it views the spread of such offensive content against the royal institution seriously, warning that it could undermine public confidence and disrupt societal harmony and order.

The public has been reminded to use social media responsibly and ethically, with authorities warning that any content deemed offensive, seditious, or defamatory, particularly involving the royal institution, will face strict legal action.– April 27, 2026
