KUALA LUMPUR — Umno Negeri Sembilan has urged that a Special Sitting of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly be convened immediately following the political turmoil currently affecting the state.
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, said any prolonged delay in holding the sitting would only weaken the stability of the state government and create greater uncertainty in its administration.
“If they persist for six months (in postponing the State Assembly sitting), the government will be managed under unstable conditions and various problems will arise, which could lead to uncertainty in the state’s administration.
“Moreover, the consequences of that could potentially open the door to various new problems. Therefore, a special State Assembly sitting must be called to decide on all the political crises taking place for the sake of the stability and interests of the state government,” he said, as reported by Berita Harian.
Jalaluddin, who is also the Pertang assemblyman, said failing to convene the sitting soon could disrupt the state’s administrative stability and affect the implementation of government policies.
He also called on Negeri Sembilan State Assembly Speaker Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman to act swiftly by convening the sitting to deliberate on the crisis and determine the best way forward.
“That step is seen as the only option to restore the situation to normal and ensure that the state administration can function more stably.
“In my view, a special assembly sitting must be called in the near future; we have no second option,” he added.
Earlier, 14 Umno and Barisan Nasional assemblymen withdrew their support for the state government led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, citing its failure to resolve issues involving the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, the Undang Yang Empat, and the Tunku Besar of Seri Menanti.
In a related move, five Perikatan Nasional assemblymen also submitted a written offer to Umno and Barisan Nasional proposing cooperation to restore political stability in the state.
The opening ceremony of the 15th Negeri Sembilan State Assembly, officiated by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, last Thursday, was initially scheduled to continue from Monday until today.
However, the sitting was postponed to a later date, which will be announced in due course.
The postponement was announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun immediately after the official opening ceremony concluded. – April 29, 2026
