KUALA LUMPUR – Amid ongoing speculation and political debate, the coalition parties forming the Madani government have reinforced that their alliance goes beyond a mere “marriage of convenience.”

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed his profound appreciation to the key component parties for their unwavering commitment to maintaining government stability until the end of the current term.

Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, spokesperson for the Unity Government, revealed that the Prime Minister personally conveyed his appreciation during a Cabinet meeting, highlighting the contributions and loyalty of Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Economic focus over political theatrics

Fahmi emphasised that the consensus shown by all coalition leaders reflects a level of political maturity that places the well-being of the people and the nation’s sovereignty above personal agendas.

This commitment effectively prevents any political manoeuvres that could divert Putrajaya’s attention.

“The government’s steadfastness is essential to allow all its machinery to focus fully on steering the national economy, especially amid global uncertainties following geopolitical tensions in West Asia,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come against the backdrop of a post-15th General Election landscape where the Unity Government emerged from an unexpected partnership between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN, later strengthened by the firm support of Borneo-based blocs GPS and GRS. Despite frequent opposition narratives suggesting attempts to topple the government mid-term, Anwar’s administration has maintained a two-thirds parliamentary majority, ushering in a more stable political environment compared with previous administrations’ leadership crises.

Strategic synergy with industry

During the weekly post-Cabinet briefing at Angkasapuri, the government also showcased its openness to listening to private sector concerns to drive domestic market growth.

Fahmi noted that the Cabinet acknowledged the proactive efforts of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), which conducted a comprehensive survey to assess the pulse, challenges, and micro-level issues affecting various industries.

“The empirical data from the FMM survey is critical. It will serve as a key reference for the government in formulating, refining, and coordinating future policies and initiatives in a more strategic, targeted, and precise manner,” he said.

This collaborative approach between the government and industry players is seen as crucial to resolving challenges facing the manufacturing sector and national supply chains comprehensively, effectively, and sustainably over the long term. – May 20, 2026
