KUALA LUMPUR – Shoppers and visitors at major sites such as Pavilion Kuala Lumpur can now experience uninterrupted indoor 5G connectivity following the deployment of Digital Nasional Berhad’s (Digital Nasional Berhad) In-Building Solutions (IBS), aimed at strengthening network performance in high-traffic commercial spaces.

The enhanced coverage allows users on CelcomDigi, Maxis and Yes (YTL Communications) to enjoy stable, high-speed 5G access throughout the mall, including during peak shopping periods, DNB said in a statement.

The rollout marks another step in DNB’s broader strategy to extend its extensive outdoor 5G footprint—covering more than 80 per cent of populated areas—into indoor environments where connectivity demand is increasingly critical.

Working in collaboration with its shareholders, building operators and ecosystem partners, DNB plans to accelerate the deployment of IBS across key commercial properties nationwide. Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is among the latest locations to benefit, with additional malls expected to be included in the rollout pipeline.

The deployment adds to 72 previously activated IBS sites, including major transport and public hubs such as KLIA, KLIA2, Senai International Airport, Penang International Airport, KL Sentral, Setia SPICE Arena, KOMTAR, leading hospitals like Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) and Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM), as well as Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs) across the country.

Indoor 5G connectivity is designed to improve user experience by delivering more consistent speeds, reduced latency and greater network reliability. These improvements support seamless mobile payments, immersive retail applications such as augmented reality, and uninterrupted connectivity even in densely crowded environments.

Beyond consumer use, DNB said indoor 5G is also a key driver of enterprise digitalisation, enabling businesses to adopt Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, automation systems and advanced technologies powered by artificial intelligence. This is expected to benefit sectors such as retail, logistics, healthcare, manufacturing and smart building management.

As Malaysia’s national wholesale 5G provider, DNB currently carries more than 80 per cent of the country’s total 5G traffic. The company’s network performance has also received recognition from international benchmarking platforms including Ookla, OpenSignal, Glotel, FutureNet and TM Forum.

DNB chief executive officer Datuk Azman Ismail said the expansion reflects ongoing efforts to deliver seamless connectivity across both indoor and outdoor environments.

“The activation of indoor 5G at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur marks another important milestone in ensuring Malaysians enjoy a truly seamless 5G experience—both outdoors and indoors. As connectivity becomes increasingly central to how people live, work and do business, it is critical that high-quality 5G is available at the places that matter most,” he said.

“Strong collaboration with our MNO partners, infrastructure providers and building owners has been key to this progress. We also appreciate the support of MCMC in spectrum allocation, which allows us to continuously optimise network performance and deliver world-class 5G services that support innovation, productivity and economic growth.” – May 29, 2026
