Saifuddin, Zaliha appointed PKR vice-presidents as congress deferred to August

KUALA LUMPUR – PKR has strengthened its central leadership with the appointments of Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa as vice-presidents.

The appointments were announced following the party’s monthly Political Bureau and Central Leadership Council meeting in Batu Pahat, Johor, as PKR intensifies preparations for the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

In a statement, the party also announced that its Annual Congress, originally scheduled for June 26 to 28, has been postponed to August 14 to 16.

The congress will still be held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.

PKR Information Chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the postponement would provide additional time for the party’s branches in Johor and Negeri Sembilan to strengthen preparations ahead of the state polls.

“The appointments are intended to reinforce central operations and strengthen mobilisation at all levels,” he said.

The Johor and Negeri Sembilan elections are expected to be closely watched political contests, with both states seen as important battlegrounds that could influence the national political landscape.

PKR’s move to elevate Saifuddin and Zaliha is seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen party coordination and ensure its machinery is fully prepared for the electoral challenges ahead. – June 6, 2026
