KUALA LUMPUR – Police have launched a manhunt for several suspects after a brawl broke out during a Fifa World Cup public screening at a restaurant in Bandar Sunway, leaving three men injured and raising fresh concerns over violence at football watch parties.

Subang Jaya district police chief, Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said police received a report on the incident, which occurred at Rock Cafe in Bandar Sunway.

In a statement, he said preliminary investigations found that the fight was believed to have been triggered by a misunderstanding between the victims and a group of men who were already at the premises before the situation escalated into violence.

“As a result of the incident, three victims sustained minor injuries and received treatment at a hospital,” he said.

Wan Azlan said police have since conducted a forensic examination at the scene, recorded statements from witnesses and obtained closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the incident.

He said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend all those involved.

“The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed with a weapon or any object used as a weapon,” he said.

Wan Azlan urged the public to remain calm, exercise self-restraint and avoid actions that could lead to violence or disrupt public order.

He also advised against spreading unverified information or speculating about the incident, warning that doing so could create confusion and interfere with ongoing investigations.
