Fahmi Fadzil now a Datuk Seri after receiving Penang’s state honour

Communications Minister among 230 recipients honoured during investiture ceremony marking Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib’s 85th birthday

KUALA LUMPUR – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has been conferred the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN), which carries the title “Datuk Seri”, in conjunction with the 85th birthday celebration of Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib today.

Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesperson, topped the list of 230 recipients receiving state honours at the Penang State Honours, Decorations and Medals Investiture Ceremony 2026 held at Dewan Sri Pinang here, Bernama reported.

He was the sole recipient of the DPPN award this year.

A total of 19 individuals were also awarded the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), which carries the same “Datuk Seri” title. Among them were MARA Incorporated Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Mohammad and Invest Penang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian.

Former Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail was among nine recipients conferred the Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN), while 72 individuals received the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which carries the title “Datuk”.

Other DSPN recipients included the late Cathay-Keris Film Productions actor, director and screenwriter Nordin Ahmad, National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) director-general Meor Ismail Meor Akim, and Bank Rakyat chairman Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak.

Earlier, Tun Ramli and his wife Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah arrived at 8.45am to officiate the investiture ceremony.

The four-day ceremony, held today and on July 13, 14 and 15, will see a total of 1,221 individuals honoured, comprising 101 recipients of state honours and 1,120 recipients of state decorations and medals.

Among the other DGPN recipients are Chief Judge of Malaya Datuk Seri Hashim Hamzah, Pelita Samudra Pertama (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Tan Sri D. Murugan, Menara Rezeki Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Saiful Nizam Mohd Yusoff, and M Summit Group chairman Datuk Moh See Eng. – July 11, 2026
