KUALA LUMPUR – PKR has confirmed that businessman Nicky Liow Soon Hee has never been a member of the party and has never applied to join, following speculation triggered by his appearance at a recent party event.
Questions arose after photographs of Liow with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at an event in Kuala Lumpur two days ago went viral on social media.
Liow was also seen wearing a PKR Youth shirt bearing the party’s logo.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said she had directed a review of the party’s membership records following the incident.
“I directed that a review of the PKR membership system be carried out, which confirmed that he is not listed in PKR’s membership records.
“It also found that he has never submitted an application to become a member,” she said in a statement today.
Liow, the founder of Winner Dynasty Group, was previously on the run for about a year after police launched a nationwide crackdown on his alleged criminal syndicate over claims it was involved in Macau Scam activities.
He later surrendered to the authorities to face multiple cheating and online scam-related investigations.
In April 2022, he was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with 26 counts of money laundering involving RM36 million.
While in hiding, Liow was also charged in absentia with being a member of an organised crime group. However, he was later granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA). – July 29, 2026
